Matching shoes and buttons.

Here is the next creation from the wonderful Colette pattern. I love the shape of this skirt and now I've made it twice I'm getting the fit spot on. As you can see (when I learn how to attach a photo), I put nice bright cheery buttons on. Today I decide to match my shoes to the buttons, so it had to be the pink ones. What do you think of the overall look? I got some funny looks from some of my students, but I was happy with it.

Hmm, haven't worked out the photo thing. Obviously need to know what picasa is!

Also loved Tilly and the buttons post this morning. If you haven't read her blog have a look at her luminous pyjama trousers. Fabulous! I tried to get some of the fabric but it was sold out! The selling power of the woman!

Earthquake

1.15 in the morning and I wake up wondering why my bed is shaking.  Not really compos mantis so I don't know if I dreamt it or if it happened but don't really get back to sleep properly until about 4.

Spent the day wandering the streets of Wellington. Found a fabulous coffee shop called 'smith the grocers' , wonder if its any relation to 'jones the grocer' in Singapore.

Found out on the news that it was a 5.4 earthquake. Not serious then.

Last day in Singapore.

Well breakfast was interesting. We went to one of the malls that had a food floor, where lots of different sorts of food was available. There was Japanese, all sorts of Chinese rice and noodle dishes, a porridge bar and ( I didn't try this) an offal bar. It's a bit strange having fried rice noodles for breakfast.
We the went on and found Arab street which is a real trading centre for fabrics, especially silks. There was also some beautiful Swiss cotton. I could have spent a lot of money, but as we have reached our weight allowance for the flight, I restrained myself and just got some silk for my pillowcases.
This afternoon we went on the mrt (tube) to the Chinese gardens. It was very hot, but also very quiet. I thought there would be more people around. Maybe it's the quiet season for tourists. Or maybe the whole world is shopping.
We leave early tomorrow morning for Auckland. It will be good to stay at my son's in Wellington and relax.

Singapore fling.

Having just spent my first day in Singapore walking round shopping malls, I'm amazed at the wealth this city must have. There's a lot of new buildings going up which seem to be yet more shopping malls. The city though is so clean - hardly any litter and the people are so polite. It feels very safe. Things do seem to be expensive, but we're staying on orchard road, which is a very eastern used area.

The flight from the uk was busy and we had n hour or so to wait at Munich. I slept a little bit but not a lot. Fortunately I paid extra to get our room by 9.00 am so we just had a sleep till about 11.30, then a shower and then a look round. Went to see raffles hotel. Real Old Colonial building. Very mpressive

I think we will have to visit little India and Chinatown tomorrow. My feet ache now.

Sticky malt loaf

It must be the time of year. I feel tired and a little bit down. So how can I cheer myself up? I obviously need something beautiful in my life and it has to be free cos pay day isn't till next week. So I've made a lovely sticky malt loaf. It's really easy and very scrummy. So now I'm lying in bed on my lovely silk pillowcase, writing my blog and eating malt loaf. I feel better already. If anyone wants the recipe you'll have to write a comment and ask me to put it on.

Well, it was a pretty miserable day yesterday. First day back at work after a weeks holiday, cold, wet and didn't really want to be there. So it was pretty difficult finding something beautiful that inspired me. I don't know about you but when I feel like that I just want to snuggle up under the duvet and keep warm. The one thing that makes my bed beautiful is the silk pillowcase. My hairdresser reccommended it to stop the back of my hair splitting (from bed head). He says that cotton leaches moisture from hair and skin and causes friction, but silk doesn't do that. It is so beautiful to sleep on. I just like to rest my face on it. Alex, the hairdresser is amazed by the improvement in my hair ( even though he suggested it!). Anyway thats my thought for today. Everyone should go out and buy one - see ebay but buy a good quality one. They do need washing on a silk wash with Woolite or Ecover but it's worth the extra hassle.
